The Institute for Russia and Eastern Europe's Creative Compass project will run for 28 months during 2009-2011. The first phase of the project was launched in spring 2009. Finland's Ministry for Foreign Affairs has allocated neighbouring area funds to the Creative Compass project.

The project seeks to:

  • identify any parties in Finland and North West Russia's creative industries who are interested in co-operation

  • organise seminars and practical workshops to discuss activities and developmental opportunities in the creative industries of both countries

  • examine a variety of issues, such as the significance of the creative industries on mental wellbeing, creative production and the importance of the employment these industries generate, and training and entrepreneurship

  • produce information products to support the project

  • promote mutual learning and the exchange of experiences

A Creative Compass expert seminar will be organised in Helsinki in late 2009. Key players from both countries will meet to discuss co-operation. The Institute's role will be to bring together interested parties and establish a network between them.

Seminar Viewpoints on Creative Economy in Russia and Project Opportunities was organised in the framework of the Creative Compass Project 19.11.2009 in Helsinki. The topics of the seminar were

  • information about actual development of the Northern Dimension Cultural Partnership and Creative Industries
  • field of creative industries in Russia
  • various creative clusters in Moscow and some other Russian cities
  • financing of creative industry and entrepreneurship projects
  • cases of practical project work: experience of educational, music and handicraft projects
Please, see the seminar materials here.
