Northern Dimension Cultural Partnerships

Northern Dimension cultural partnerships aim to raise the importance of culture in international politics. They seek to promote cultural co-operation between the EU and Russia in particular.
The Northern Dimension's new manifesto and policy framework document came into force on 1 January 2007. The new framework consists of a joint policy for four equal partners - the EU, Russia, Norway and Iceland - which is carried out on a practical level through partnerships. Culture, education and research form one of the main focal areas for co-operation. Others include the economy, internal and external safety, social and environmental issues, and health. The goal is for the entire Northern Dimension zone to develop into a globally competitive area.
The Northern Dimension Partnership on Culture was agreed upon in St. Petersburg
The Northern Dimension Partnership on Culture - Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed 21.5.2010 in St. Petersburg. The document was signed at the end of the Nordic Council of Ministers Cultural Forum held in St. Petersburg. Participants in the venue included Nordic, EU as well as Russian cultural, creative industries and education sector representatives from 11 countries. The forum examined development opportunities of the creative economy in the Northern Dimension area. The partnership on culture completes existing national and international organisations practicing cultural cooperation.
